Hooray! Work finished yesterday on the escalator at the Porter Square T stop! The maintenance work — which is supposed to keep stuff running, but in this case had the opposite effect — lasted 23 days, or 15 more than intended. It was an epic repair job! Songs will be sung of it. Paintings painted.
And of course there will be a sequel.

I found the sequel! They're at Davis now. I saw the Kone barriers on Friday. No crew, of course, just a blocaded and non-working escalator.
It's not as bad as it must have been at Porter-- those are really long escalators. These are only about 2 flights. So what do you think-- 11 1/2 days of downtime, each escalator?
I'm going to have to get off at Davis just so I can check out the situation on my own. I'm told that Central Square has is going for the record, though, with an escalator that's been out for literally months.
Central has an escalator???? I guess I usually get on & off at the minor entrances with stairs only, because I can squeeze a kid on with me for free through the unattended turnstiles.
There's an escalator ... it just doesn't seem to make a lot of difference.
Hey! This morning it appeared that Kone had finished
its business with Davis and cleared out. Maybe Alewife
now??? They have a TON of escalators... one for each floor of the parking garage, IIRC.
It turns out Kone is based in Moline, Ill. Perhaps travel time is a factor in how long it takes for them to fix anything.
